Puzzle Description:

After I got out of the nursing home, I needed to get the staples removed from my arm. A visiting nurse told me she had made an appointment with my doctor to remove them, but when I got there the doctor knew nothing about it and would not remove the staples. The quack...er orthopedic surgeon who did the surgery was way, way over on the other side of Phoenix. I laid on a gurney for over 24 hours before the hospital could get a surgeon that would come. Many doctors refused to work with this hospital. I finally got an appointment with an ortopedic doctor closer to where I live. The first question he asked me was, "How come, if you had two broken bones, the doctor only fixed one?" While I was reeling from that tidbit, he told me the metal in my arm was going to cause me problems. Seems it sticks out a bit beyond the end of my elbow, which I hadn't noticed because the incision was on the underside of my arm. I now get my own fireworks display if I accidentally bump my elbow.

So the nursing home from hell is always with you. Did you do something about 'quack'? You had lots of evidence with you where ever you go. Thank you for sharing this part of your life with us.

There were too many delays on getting the brace off and the stitches out and my arm and my elbow and fingers were pretty much frozen and I couldn't drive. I worked very hard to get mobility back and considered taking action. But it's very hard to prove. Doctors are very reluctant to testify against other doctors and only a very small percentage of the cases are won by those suing the doctors and it is a very long and drawn out process.

You poor dear!!! How did you manage to go through all that hell and still come out with your sense of humor in tact? What year did this occur? God bless you.

I understand the long a drawn out process. In March it will be two years since we first filed paperwork on Krista being disabled. Finally we have a lawyer who specializes in these cases, but it still may take another 6 months waiting for a court date.

You are a kind hearted soul and you have blessed all of us at webpbn with kindness and help. You go girl!

I have never heard of such incompetence by a doctor. The nursing home and hospital also. When I had Guillaume Barré Syndrome which I contacted after a car hit me from behind. My family doctor checked me out and said he could find nothing wrong with me. He then said he felt I was faking my symptoms because I was trying to sue the kid who hit me. He sent me to a neurologist who took 5 minutes to diagnose me as having GBS. He admitted me into the hospital immediately. My family doctor apologized but I got myself another doctor anyway. :)

Sounds similar to my last heart attack. The EMT's rushed me to the hospital at midnight where they did some tests and the ER doc said there was just a little problem with my blood gases and I would probably go home after the cardiologist saw me at 8:00 AM. When the cardiologist came in and looked at my test results, he started yelling at everybody and said he wanted me set up for a heart cath immediately. In short order I was transferred to another hospital where they performed a triple bypass. The hours I spend in ER from midnight to 8:00 is a story as bad as the nursing home. I begged the EMT's not to take me there (it was the same place I went with my broken arm) but they said it was under new management and was better now. HA!

HORRIBLE! (Your trials, not the puzzle. The puzzle is great.)

You had a heart attack?! A TRIPLE bypass??!! You had TWO broken bones and only one was fixed?!
You must be a VERY strong lady to have survived all that and come through it with your humor intact.
God bless you.

Norma, I am so sorry you had to go through this.

There are, unfortunately, a lot of really scary nursing homes out there.
#27: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Nov 14, 2023
Thank you, Valerie. My mother had a stroke which paralized her left side but her brain was still fine. We had to move her several times to find a place that recognized this.
