Thank you, Brian. This was, indeed, a sad occasion.

I'm glad someone thought of this. I've been feeling low and praying for everyone affected--victims, friends, relatives, all day. I can't imagine what it would be like to wonder if my loved one were in there and dead or alive. I was moved by that mother who was texting her son and then never heard from him again. I'm still not sure if he survived. I also worried about the possibility (probability?) that this will be happening again and again in America, as well as many other countries. I feel sorry for people who feel so much hatred that they must kill people they don't even know. Thank you, Brian.

I just turned the news back on. The mother I spoke of above was being interviewed again. Her son did not survive. She was trying to hold back the tears while being interviewed. Many other mothers are probably doing the same. I will continue to hold them in my heart and my prayers.

Jennifer, perhaps you heard that it almost happened the next day in California. Fortunately they stopped the guy before he got to the Gay Pride parade. And did you read that there are haters who are openly celebrating the shooting?

Beautiful memorial Brian. How messed up do you have to be to do something like this and how is it that no one recognized that you were a danger to others. I'll be honest with you all. Niki's one son shows some bad behaviuoral traits that worry us because of his ADHD,but we got help for him in the form of psychiatric care, medication and one on one with a councillor. We also have a councillor who has experience with ADHD children (her own and others) who helps us learn how to handle his behaviour. Hopefully he won't end up like this and if he does hopefully we have enough people and ourselves to recognize it and do something before he can hurt anyone. I expect I'll be the first one he takes out,but I sleep with one eye open so he may not get the chance.

I was reading background on this and someone spoke recently at the shooter's mosque about Sharia Law and homosexuality... they believe that until everyone is following Sharia Law strictly no one can achieve heaven so this speaker said that killing homosexuals is actually an act of compassion because it stops them from sinning anymore. How can you fight people who are being indoctrined that way?
#14: Jennifer McMahon (kalamalama) on Jun 13, 2016
Norma, I did see on the news that something had happened in California, but I did not know what it was. Thank you for enlightening me. I did not read about people celebrating the shooting. That's sick. I will pray for them, too. I have heard that ISIS has called for this kind of attack during this, their holy month. I'm glad that Brian has given us the opportunity to get our feelings out on this subject. I hurt for those people.

In this country (the United States) we cherish a set of laws that include freedom of speech and a presumption of innocence until proven guilty. This makes it very difficult for law reinforcement to be proactive. It is ironic (if that is the right word) that the same reason we are hated by these fanatics also gives them the freedom to carry out these horrific attacks.

Thank you for this puzzle, Brian. And thanks for everyone's comments. I'm so proud to be part of such a caring and compassionate community. I sometimes wonder if I were born to different parents, in a different culture, would I have different values and beliefs than those I hold to? I'm grateful to be who I am.

Thank you Brian, and I am also agree with all of you. What a world we live in where violence is the norm not the exception.
