1965? You've got to be kidding. Surely, it wasn't that long ago. However, my perception of time has nothing to do with what a nice puzzle this is.

Travis, I am curious why you had your name set to "valerie o..travis"? Just curious!
#19: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Feb 24, 2024
Travis's real name has been Valerie all along. It was discussed in a few comment threads, but I could never remember her actual name! :)

Oh wow -- I did not know that! Travis: Hello to another Valerie!
#21: JoDeen Mozena (ozymoe) on Feb 25, 2024
Ages ago, when I was still a bit suspicious of internet playing sites, I was known as Ozymoe...and most people thought I was a guy, as I intended. Of course now that I'm perfectly at home on a few sites I really enjoy, such as this one, I am myself, JoDeen...and now we can even do a short bio of ourselves, which I have done. I love how we can click on our highlighted name (mine is Ozymoe) and find out a bit about our friends.

Thanks to both Valeries...to one for the puzzle and to the other for endless care in making webPBN such a wonderful place to be and share!

JoDeen -- Back when I was in college, I joined a campus online discussion system and set my name to Trillian. People greeted me with "Welcome back!" It turned out that there had been another person using that same name, who had left before I joined. I kept trying to explain to people that I was a different person, but people never remembered. Eventually I got frustrated with their confusion and changed my name to "The Mad Bomber," instead. Then, to my surprise, people thought I was a guy. I was intrigued by how utterly different my words sounded when it looked like they were being spoken by a guy. I wrote exactly the same things I would have said as Trillian, and yet people reacted very differently.

Also: ::blush:: -- thanks for the thanks!

It's so interesting to go back to the then "new" internet times, isn't it? I ALSO found that speaking my mind as a perceived woman could bring very different reactions than if I were speaking as a male persona.

Yes! There was an article that went around the Internet a few years ago, where a man in tech support accidentally had his name set to his female co-worker's name and he didn't realize it. He noticed that people started questioning his expertise on everything and frequently trying to overturn his decisions, so that doing anything took much longer than usual. He said it was very eye-opening!
