"Y naught"

A little edge logic on the 8 and the 5 and voila!

I'm stumped. I suppose it has to do with a graph where the y axis is vertical, but naught would be at the bottom of the graph, so that's the bottom of the hill. I don't understand why the cannon is at the top of the hill. Please explain it so I can try the joke out on my mathematically inclined sons.

In physics you subscribe a zero to indicate the position of an object at zero time. In 2d they are given as x naught and y naught.

Okay, thanks. Guess we didn't cover that in high school physics.

Found to be solvable with moderate lookahead by blurglecruncheon.

Ugh, sorry for the double-click there, folks.

It is indeed moderate lookahead. I was able to place all the non-black dots and C13R20 is a black dot, but then edge logic is required. The 5 in row 7 gets things rolling to where you can use edge logic for the remaining black dots.

Also, BOOOOOOOO to the pun, as always :). They're fun whether or not I'm able to guess them, and though I "got" this one, the explanations are appreciated for the ones I don't/didn't get!

I got really far with color logic and thought it would take me all the way through solving the puzzle, but then I did end up having to use edge logic for the 8 in row 20 and the 5 in row 7.

I don't get the image. It looks like a red cannon ball, not a cannon? I don't know what the other shapes are either.

It is a green cannon barrel made mobile by the red wheels. This image is just as the black cannonball leaves the muzzle of the cannon.
