I remember Wonderama! Brian, are you from the New York area? I think the show was local to there.

That's what I thought. I'm surprised the show was shown there.

... I looked it up on Wikipedia, which says, "Wonderama aired on its originating station, WNEW-TV in New York City, as well as in five other markets in which Metromedia owned television stations: WTTG in Washington D.C., KMBC-TV in Kansas City, KTTV in Los Angeles, WXIX-TV in Cincinnati, and WTCN-TV in Minneapolis – Saint Paul."

Interesting! So you must have seen it on KTTV. I saw it on WNEW.

The Wikipedia page was a rabbit hole of childhood memories. Neat!

I remember shortly after Bob McAllister was fired from the show, my childhood Girl Scout troop was downtown waiting in a huge line to go in to some kind of media event -- maybe seeing Wonderama filmed with the new host? Bob McAllister had rented a room across the street from the line. He blasted his song "Kids Are People Too" from speakers, and occasionally threw an autographed ball to a kid. He made it clear to us all that he was very upset about being fired from the show. It was a little scary. Also, I remember feeling cheated that the host wasn't Bob McAllister. It felt like getting the cheap knockoff version instead of the real thing.
