I think it is the nib of a pen, writing a line.

There is one tricky part at the beginning. The key for me was the four in c9; some deep lookahead first eliminated r1c9, and then r2c9. Once those two were dots, the rest of the puzzle was easy.

Found to have a unique solution by wombatilim.

Initial LL solves 51%

R3: EL v. R4 marks C6 black. LL.

R12: If C2 is black, R15 is invalid. LL.

R2: If the 4 goes to C9, R3C5 is white. If the 4 in R2 goes to C5 instead, R4C5 is white. Either way, R6C5 is black. LL.

C9: If R5 is black, C7-8 are invalid. Minimal LL.

R1: Whether the 2 uses C4 or C8, R6C4 is black. Minimal LL.

C10: Whether the 5 goes to R12 or R17, R14-15 C8 are black. No LL.

R12: If the black in C6 is the 1, R13 is invalid. LL.

C4: Whether the blacks in R5-6 are part of the 3 or part of the first 4, R7C5 is black.
