Far too many solutions. Those eyelashes are the most problematic. When you save your puzzle, but before you publish it, use the "Check" feature. It'll tell you if your puzzle has multiple solutions, and you can toggle between them to see where the problem areas are. You may have to do this over and over, until the checker lets you know that you have a single solution, with no guessing.

There are over 1000 solutions to this puzzle, and I'm not convinced there is a logical way to get up to the guessing part (and there's no incentive to try.)

Just so you know: The person who created this puzzle is no longer on the site. Johanna Pauli was nice enough to restore it back to her guess at what the puzzle creator may have intended.

Well, I liked it. Reminds me of one of those scary clown faces. With one nostril? I guess that would be scary.

I'm not always sure when I've crossed over into guessing. Sometimes I have a hunch, and rather than work thru all the logic to determine if it's correct, I just try it and click C to check. Think of it as subliminal logic.

Thank you Valerie for clarifying things. :)

I am very sorry, but I will try to get the most plausible solution for all the lost ones. Since I might be the one appearing as the publisher for all of them, and they will have multiple solution, I expect to be the target of your frustration. I am myself very annoyed by the multiple solutions. But still, I prefer to find after all the guessing a nice image, and not some scrambled non-sense. So please, shoot, but not straight to the heart. :D

Regarding this one, it was a rather easy guess. The blue and the green are single solution. The red not, but it gets advanced enough in order to see what the the result should be. And for the black it helps to have the rest figured out. After I got the image, I had the discussion with Valerie and we went for changing the initial recovered guessed version with this one.

Joe, how do you know how many solutions there are? Did you approximate it by looking at the all the obvious problem areas? Or do you have a solutions generator?

All is forgiven, kibitzar! I assumed you had created the puzzle. I restored all of my own lost puzzles, and that was difficult enough, and I'm the one who created them in the first place!

kibitzar, I did estimate going by the obvious problem areas. As it turns out, I estimated badly.

When you see a square 2x2 that has black and white in a diagonal (and nothing next to it that interferes) then that diagonal can go either way.

Each eye has three of these: the top eyelash, the bottom eyelash, and the upper right corner of the eye.

So in total for those six independent sections we have 2^6 solutions or 64.

I also counted two more for each center eyelash: the top two pixels, and the middle two pixels. (The bottom two would run into other clues if rotated.) That would have made 2^10 and so 1024 solutions. However, this was wrong. These sections are not independent of each other. The middle eyelashes only have 3 solutions each instead of 4 each.

So the more correct estimate of solutions is 3 x 3 x 64 = 576 solutions.

PS. I don't have facebook and the WebPBN group is private, so I can't see the thread.
