Arrgh, this is frustrating. It is so obvious where the clues go, but it is surprisingly hard to prove it. It is also very easy to assume that the outside edges make "smiles", and they do finally make that shape, but you CANNOT prove it with smile logic.

edge logic 7 r1 = c3-5, c18 white
el 7 c3 = r2-6, c15-20 w
el 3 c4 = r2-4 w
el 5 c18 = r16-20 w
deep el 5 c18 (versus c16) = r2 w
el 5 c18 = r3-5 w
del 7 r1 (vs r3) = c17w
el 3 c17 = r2 w
internal el right 2 r2 = c16 w (the 1 in c15 would force either a block of one in r1 or a block of two in r3, both are conflicts.)

Then I had trouble finding plain old moderate lookahead, so here's edge logic + 1 step:

If the 5 in c18 were in r11-15, then the 3 in c17 would have to be in r9-11. The crossing clues for that 3 would then create a conflict in c16. So c18r15 must be white.

Well, only 15 blacks into it and I'm stuck.

Did I miss something?

YES!!! Thanks, Tom! This was fun.
#6: Kurt Kowalczyk (bahabro) on Jun 8, 2014
well, you found more than I did Joe...I've got almost all the same things as you (except the iel on the 2nd "2" and your el+ step) before I checked out the comments. I got stuck after only 11 blacks

perhaps that's why he's crying
