I never understood why they don't simply wish for more wishes with one of those three wishes.

Sometimes that is part of the requirement that you can't wish for more wishes and sometimes that you can't hurt someone else. It could also be a good idea to just wish that you would get all of your heart's true desires.

Did you ever watch aladin? The genie there explained that you can't wish for more wishes, you can't wish for someone to fall in love with you and you can't wish to bring someone back from the dead.

I suspect that all "I give thee three wishes" offers actually come with a large set of unstated limitations. In Grimm's story of "The Fisherman's Wife" we see such a limitation come into play when the wife wishes to be God. Even if such a limitation is not explicit, any being powerful enough to grant wishes is pretty much guaranteed get it's own back if you try to meddle with it too arrogantly. It's pretty important to maintain the good will of the wish granter or your wishes may not turn out well.

So maybe you'd get your infinite number of wishes and maybe that would be its own punishment, as your life disappears into pointless wish fulfillment.

Well that's a buzz kill...

Or you might set the genie free, but she's in love with you so she hangs around anyway and wackiness ensues. Or maybe that's Jeannie?

lol

I watched one show where the genie grants your wish (maximum of 3) but she does it in a different way then you probably meant. In the show I was watching, the girl wished that people would stop comparing her to her brother. So the genie made everyone forget that he was her brother, but people still compared the two of them.

I guess the old adage holds true - "Be careful what you wish for ..."

nicely drawn

On an episode of Fairly Oddparents, Norm the Genie revealed his strategy. The first wish is blown on something simple, like a sandwich. The second wish is for money or power, which is easy to twist so that it has disastrous consequences. Therefore, the third wish is "I wish I'd never found this lamp" or "I wish everything would go back to normal."
