It's been over 40 years since I graduated high school. In grade school I learned about nouns and pronouns, as well as other parts of speech. Perhaps because I majored in mathematics in college, I did not know what the term "collective noun" means until I looked it up just now. And, there are also things called "mass nouns"! Time for me to go back to school!

I just finished the small puzzle by Brian of the London Tower and a Foggy Day in London Town started in my mind and I couldn't help but think that's how my brain feels.

The problem with collective nouns is that the rules are different from country to country. In the US, "The team is winning," because just one team is winning. In England, "The team are winning," because all the members of the team are winning. Yeesh.

Yes, it makes for a little bump in the road when reading a book by an English author. I brought a book home from the library once by an English author and one of the previous readers had sat with pen in hand and corrected all these "errors".
