Funny. I did not see this coming!! LOL
#2: John Macdonald (perlwolf) on Feb 8, 2014 [SPOILER]
LOL. I hear that Russian broadcast TV quickly switched to a tape of the rehearsal where the rings formed flawlessly. My (admittedly biased) opinion is that this kind if problem was handled much better in the last (Canadian) winter Olympics, where the mechanical failure during the opening ceremonies was fixed and incorporated into the closing ceremonies - poking fun at ourselves for making a mistake and letting everyone laugh with us. Pretending that it didn't happen at all invites people to instead laugh at you.

Being a huge fan of Steve Nash, I was glued to the TV to see how it would turn out.

I didn't realize what this was because I don't have a strong enough antenna to bring in channel 12 (NBC). PBS and NBC are both VHF and I need to get an outdoor antenna to bring them in. I get everything else just fine and the color and sound are quite good for the size.

You are so cutting edge. I feel sorry for the Russians...and ashamed for them. Someone really dropped the ball. I'll bet there was at least one individual that saw this coming...and was powerless to fix it because of internal pride and/or bureaucracy...been on that end in community theatre.
#5: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Feb 8, 2014
glad to hear that T.V. is working good Norma.Very funny Travis.:)
#6: Jennifer McMahon (kalamalama) on Feb 8, 2014
You can't get Fox News? They talked about it. I also get email from Fox News and heard about it there.
#7: karl (keicher) on Feb 8, 2014

That's awful. Why can't they laugh it off? Mistakes happen.

Thanks all for your comments :)

#11: Gary Webster (glwebste) on Feb 9, 2014 [SPOILER]
One small mistake. The rest of the ceremony was, well, impressive. I rather hope the killing of the guy was apochriphal, but if it is true, all the worries about Russia as a host were not foolish paranoia.

The article in the link in #8 positively reeks of spoof. The last paragraph is a "dead" giveaway (pardon the pun).
“If he feels the Ceremony reflects him, who knows what he’ll do to seek justice,” said Zhukov before part of a hotel ceiling crashed to the floor beside him. “All I know is Borris Avdeyev failed Russia and got what he deserved.” More of the hotel began to crumble and the interview had to be cut short.
#14: karl (keicher) on Feb 9, 2014
really, you didnt think it was a spoof when it said that "maybe he tripped and fell on a set of knives"?

come on you guys - in 'Merica, we kick ass, in Soviet Russia, ass kicks YOU!!
#15: Deana L (ffswife) on Feb 9, 2014 [SPOILER]
The "news report" about the "mishap" originated on a satirical news site. 100% made up.
#16: Jota (jota) on Feb 9, 2014
That's what the Daily Currant is all about!
#17: valerie o..travis (bigblue) on Feb 10, 2014

#18: Wombat (wombatilim) on Feb 10, 2014 [SPOILER]
Should anyone want a t-shirt commemorating the occasion: http://teespring.com/almostsochi
#19: valerie o..travis (bigblue) on Feb 10, 2014
that's great, is this your t-shirt idea?
#20: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Feb 11, 2014
I liked the changed in the rings
#21: valerie o..travis (bigblue) on Feb 11, 2014
ditto :)
#22: Kristen Vognild (Kristen) on Feb 11, 2014 [SPOILER]
The T-shirt makes it seem special and nostalgic. If the Russians were smart (once their pride isn't bruised anymore), they would embrace this image and make it an iconic image from their Olympics.

Norma, I bet there's a recording of the opening ceremonies available on the internet somewhere.

Nicely done, Travis. :)
#23: valerie o..travis (bigblue) on Feb 11, 2014
thank you kristen :)
#24: Wombat (wombatilim) on Feb 11, 2014
Sadly I did not come up with the T-shirt. I only wish I could take credit for it.
