thanks....and who would you suggest that I learn from, travis?

Lol...learn from trying! I think that's how everyone here does. As most everything, at first it's labor intensive...but as time goes on it get's easier. I know my solving skills evolved that way.

Yada, it might be helpful if you went to Find Puzzles, then to Best Puzzles. You can pick out what kind of puzzles you want to look at and as you solve them you can get an idea of how people create. Start with the easy, smaller puzzles. I started by putting a blob of squares where I wanted something to be, then played with the blob, turning squares off and adding more until it began to resemble something. Kind of like how you would work with a ball of clay.

Yes, I'll echo everyone else by suggesting a mix of solving lots of puzzles (to find out the sorts of puzzles you like the most), and creating your own. I knew I would want to do portraits (since I like to paint them), and it took a lot of trial and error to get my technique down in pixel form.

I like Norma's approach of sculpting her puzzles. I use reference photos most of the time, and treat my puzzles more like paintings.
