#6: Linda Martin (ilovethispuzzle123) on Nov 4, 2013
thank you amy and aldege :-) the homes in my old neighborhood were built in the 1920's - good, solid structures. I thought our house was enormous, but then I was a child...
#7: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Nov 4, 2013
I've lived in many lovely old homes in my lifetime, one was 150 yrs old with wide pine plank floors and a majestic wood burning fireplace, hot water heating radiators and lots of other cool things. I wish I lived in one again. I would love my kids to experience the fun of older homes.:)

WOW! :)

Stunning picture. When I see pictures of structures like this, I have this strong desire to go back in time and see what it was like to live in them when they were new.

I sometimes think that too Norma! We lived in a 150 year old house too but it wasn't as beautiful as these ones. Awesome puzzle

I got to live in this house for several months. It was tied up in estate and vandals were breaking in so they needed someone to live in it until it was decided what to do with it. An art professor as ASU, who became a very good friend of ours, would take his students there to sketch. The lawyers handling the estate knew of his love and respect for the place and asked if his family would move in and he asked if my husband and I would like to live there for a while, also. While we were there the professor and his wife had a small dinner party for Leonard Wimberly, author of "The Mouse That Roared". It was one of the most interesting and entertaining evenings I have ever had. Perhaps some of you are familiar with the movie which starred Peter Sellers.

thank you, Thomas, norman and susan! I appreciate your comments and solving my puzzle.

norma - that was an amazing video and a stunning home. but your dinner party takes the cake! I would have loved to have been there - I loved peter sellers (he was a nut!) and "the mouse that roared". how cool that you and your husband got to live there. those little balconies, the spindle work and dentil molding, the porches. I would have died and gone to heaven!

I lived in a house in Colorado springs that had two back-to-back, working van briggle tile fireplaces. one side had blue van briggle tiles and the other had yellow. each fireplace had the original leaded glass mirrors and carved mantels with heavy posts. and like aldege's description above, there were wood floors and water radiators which knocked delightedly from time to time. beautiful home.

Wonderful story Norma,I'm sure that it's a wonderful memory for you.:)

This place had back to back fireplaces, but nothing fancy and there was no other heating. My dad was in the hardware business so he found us a little pot bellied stove as there was a place to put it in our bedroom.
#16: Linda Martin (ilovethispuzzle123) on Nov 4, 2013
I just had an image of a pot bellied stove in a cabin, which would be the perfect house for me!
#17: Tom O'Connell (sensei69) on Nov 6, 2013
wow...brings back memories of the old neighborhood, in Chicago, were I grew up :)
#18: Kim (kjh) on Nov 6, 2013

#19: Linda Martin (ilovethispuzzle123) on Nov 6, 2013

Row houses remind me of The Magician's Nephew (book 5 of C.S. Lewis's Narnia series).
#21: Linda Martin (ilovethispuzzle123) on Nov 13, 2013
I just wiki'd the title, Kristen, and saw where the story mentions "terraced houses", another term for row homes. we have "townhomes" in Colorado, which are essentially the same thing.
#22: Kristen Vognild (Kristen) on Nov 14, 2013
In the story, a boy and girl discover that all of the attics are connected, so they build a secret fort in the attic of an empty house along the row.

No. 1: Fabulous puzzle
No. 2: I love all the stories. Thanks, everybody for sharing.
No. 3: I need to see if I can get a hold of "The Mouse That Roared." I haven't seen it in years. I remember my dad making me sit down as a teenager and watch it. Now I need to make my son watch that great story with the great Peter Sellers.
No. 4: Yes, Linda, you really should read the "Narnia" books by C.S.Lewis
