Puzzle Description:

...Laura Ingalls becomes the first woman to fly across the U.S. from Roosevelt Field, N.Y. to Glendale, California and back.

I don't believe that this is true. 1931 - Ruth Nichols fails in her attempt to fly solo across the Atlantic, but she breaks the world distance record flying from California to Kentucky. So if this was a year later, Laura Ingalls couldn't have flown this the year before. Besides, wasn't Laura Ingalls Wilder a writer? She didn't pilot as far as I knew. BTW cute puzzle.

I can't vouch for the facts Travis, but it is a really cool puzzle. I love the plane.I sometimes make puzzles like this about things in the past. I get the ideas from my classic car magazines. They can be fun to do.:)

Uncle Wiki says: 1930 – Established first women's transcontinental round trip record between Roosevelt Field and Grand Central Air Terminal, Glendale, California and return. Time 30:25 to California; 25:20 on return flight to Roosevelt Field. Airplane: D.H. Gipsy Moth in October
A site called wiseGeek say that on Oct.9. 1930
A woman piloted a plane round-trip across the US for the fist time. (1930) Aviator Laura Ingalls flew from New York to California and back. Ingalls set many aviation records, including the longest female solo flight. She was the first of any gender to fly around South American solo.

I really like this puzzle. It's funny and fun.

Uncle Wiki says that this is a different Laura Ingalls, née Houghtaling.

Interesting coincidence, but different women. :)

Laura Ingalls the pilot and Laura Ingalls the writer are different people. Laura the pilot was convicted of collaborating with the Nazis.

Oh.. different L.I. I am so sorry for the mix up!!!! :( My fact about Ruth Nichols was true, though. Laura Ingalls stopped nine times on her trip from NY to CA. Ruth Nichols didn't stop. That was the difference. Thank you for all the links to the truth!!
