Puzzle Description:

meandering river: in general these waterways form sinuous channels. as these channels loop, the loops can grow toward each other forming an oxbow.the red dot shows and oxbow. eventually the river will take the short route and abandon the oxbow, which will then be an oxbow lake as seen on the left in the upper section of the puzzle. the Mississippi is an excellent example of a meandering river.

Mark Twain describes in detail how he memorized every inch of the Mississippi when he became a riverboat pilot. Then how years later when he took a nostalgic trip, he recognized very little of the river.

It's neat to look at the border along the western edge of Mississippi, along Arkansas and Louisiana. You can see that the border *used* to follow the river, but large chunks of it have changed as the river has shifted along its banks.
