#1: Gator (Gator) on May 12, 2010

In an effort to improve my designing skills, I am going back to some of my older designs that required advanced techniques (mostly edge logic) to solve, and I will be posting new versions that are line logic solvable.

So, I will be adding a "-LLS" to the end of the title to denote these puzzles. So just because they are "Gator puzzles", do not assume they need edge logic. :)

I would like to quote Jan's comment from puzzle 8754 here as a general hint for these:

A rule for gator LLS puzzles. When you get stuck, look for lines with two or more unplaced clues, but with dots or filled squares in unusual patterns, especially lines where for some of the possible solutions are very constrained, so you are thinking "if the 8 is covers both this black and that black, then it has to be exactly here", or "if the 4 doesn't cover this black, then it has to be exactly there". These kinds of lines with rather complicated things going on in them are fertile ground for fancy line logic, where you can notice that for *all* the possible solutions, one particular cell has is always black or always white. In the always black case, it will be always black, but not always part of the same clue. In the always white case it will always be white, but not always between the same two clues. It takes some time to think through all the possible arrangements of the clues in a line and compare them to see if there are any cells whose color never changes, but luckily Gator's puzzles are also small, and most lines are usually pretty normal looking and thus can be readily dismissed.

That was weird. I checked on the FIND page with the "Me" button, and I was logged in as Gator. A quick visit back to the front page and I'm now re-logged in as myself.

That's extremely weird. Got to be some kind of glitch with session id's, but I can't see how ... wait ... I do have a theory.

OK...Gator and others. When you post links back to webpbn pages, please remove the &sid=goobltygook part from the end of the URL. The "sid" is your session ID, a unique identifier that is assigned when you log in and is used to track which page requests belong to you. It gets invalidated when you log off, but for as long as it is valid, anyone who follows a link with your session id in it will become "you".

I just removed all session ids from links posted to the forum. Maybe I need to add in some logic that notices such things when they are posted and deletes them.

Ah, I thought our sids had crossed somehow, but I didn't make the connection to the link I'd followed.

When I told my daughter about this, it occurred to me that it might generate a conspiracy theory that Gator and I are actually the same person.

Let me categorically state, "infrapinklizzard" never logs on from the same IP as "Gator".
