I like starfish. they are pretty to look at but not to eat. my brother found a dead one on the beach in atlantic city. I was really young and thought it looked like a piece of fried chicken for some reason. I took a small bite and chewed it. I cannot even begin to describe the horrible flavor and texture of it. still, it's a pretty cool animal.

Madeleine L'Engle was my favorite author as a preteen, and The Arm of the Starfish is one of my favorite post-Wrinkle novels. In it, Meg and Calvin are married and renowned scientists, and Calvin (now Dr. O'Keefe) has been studying regeneration, and whether humans could be injected with starfish DNA and regrow limbs.

I remember learning about starfish regenerative properties in high school biology. DNA was still in the future, however.

Whenever I hear the comment than a person marvels at the perfection of the human body I think, "Yeah, right". Then I start thinking of the many, many things that can go wrong with the human body, all too many of them irreversable. Regeneration would be a nice start to fixing things.
