Puzzle Description:

A variety of colors for the cross.

#1: Maikki (felia) on Feb 10, 2008

Hmm.. I think it should state in the title, if the content is religious, don't you think?
#2: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Feb 10, 2008
Come on its just cross in diffrent color it's not as if you need to do a prayer after it

nice job on the color pattern
#3: m2 (mercymercy) on Feb 11, 2008
Thanks for a nice puzzle sunsetsmiley. Welcome back to puzzle-making.

Good argument Sylvain ;)

Maikki talar du svenska? Vem annars skulle förstå felia?
#4: Beth (Shasta) on Feb 11, 2008
Very pretty. (I am not religious but I still like it)
#5: Arduinna (arduinna) on Feb 11, 2008
Though, people have generally marked "religious," "political," or "adult" in the past. It's kinda nice to know.
#6: Maikki (felia) on Feb 11, 2008
Judy, ja det gör jag. Visserligen är jag finsk.

I didn't mean that I personally am very upset and offended by the puzzle. I think it's very pretty. I just think that marking puzzles is somewhat polite. That's all :)
#7: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Feb 11, 2008
Yeah..I want the dungeon & dragon one's marked too! they kinda creep me out..sorry nothing personal to the ones creating them :)
#8: Arduinna (arduinna) on Feb 11, 2008
And the spiders, Naneki? ;)
#9: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Feb 11, 2008
for the future all puzzle should be rated G PG 13+ 16+ 18+ or R or even AO with note on why they got the rating.

Come on its just a drawing on the computer screen , not a film not a tv show or even a video game.

I'm not a big fan of always rate everything its so up to personnal feeling to see what is offendent or not. As for myself everything with a smily face should be ban ( just kidding btw)

#10: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Feb 11, 2008
oh definitely the spider...oooooo scary..
no really I don't think the puzzles should be rated...puzzles are puzzles (except for adult themes, cause we got young ones here) but then again, if you rate an adult theme puzzle, who's going to stop the young ones from peeking anyway, I know I would :)

lol, Sylvain
#11: m2 (mercymercy) on Feb 12, 2008
I don't like the idea of your rating system Sylvain. Nobody would do the pg 13s and we would have to mark them all R or XXX to get anybody to do them ;)
#12: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Feb 12, 2008
M2 it was a joke sarcasm at is best

And I tought I wnet hard to show my point :)
#13: m2 (mercymercy) on Feb 12, 2008
I know.. mine was also a joke :) I actually have a higher view of the people here and don't think they are only after XXX pics... well at least not here anyhow ;)
#14: Gypso (Gypso) on Feb 15, 2008
This is the first of your puzzles that I have solved Michelle (or may I call you Sunsetsmiley?).
It was easy and relaxing with a colorful result.
Now I'm off to try your first design, #893.

Thank you for the puzzle. :)

Naneki, you don't have to explain it to me anymore. Now I get the comments on the other puzzle. ;-)
#15: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Feb 16, 2008
? Gypso ,explain what & what other puzzle?
#16: Gypso (Gypso) on Feb 17, 2008
I can't remember the #'s or names anymore Naneki. :(
It had to do with ratings though.
#17: Arduinna (arduinna) on Feb 17, 2008
Correct me if I'm wrong, Gypso, but I think you were talking about the "adult rated" puzzles by Sylvain and Mercy. Right?
#18: Gypso (Gypso) on Feb 18, 2008
Yes Ma'am! You are correct. Thank you for the clarification. :)

I thought this was a fun little puzzle.

One of the things I thought about when I first built this site was what the heck I was going to do if people started posting pornographic puzzles. Luckily that problem hasn't really materialized. I don't really believe in censorship, but I don't really want someone to be solving a puzzle on the site and then have their five-year-old come up, look at the screen and say, "Hey look! Mommy's drawing a @%&#*!" So I asked that people label puzzles with controversial content, and I labeled some of my early puzzles with religious or political themes, more in hopes of establishing a culture of labeling potentially controversial content than because I thought anyone was likely to be offended by those particular puzzles.

So I'm happy to see that there is some discussion of whether or not a 99.999% inoffensive puzzle like this should be labeled or not, because that gives me confidence that people are attuned to the issue and are likely to deal appropriately with anything more seriously offensive that might show up. But at the same time, I really don't care one way or the other if puzzles like this are labeled.

I think people should know that everyone here is different, with different beliefs, values, and things they consider offensive. How can 1 person who is religious, for example, and who is making a simple cross design, possibly think in their mind that someone might actually be offended?

I think everyone should just go into these puzzles knowing that there might be some themes or topics that may be potentially offensive, and to not take it personally.

For me, for example, I think word puzzles, pattern puzzles, and extremely large puzzles (no offense Nancy, lol) are highly offensive! :-) But I am learning to deal with the fact that those types of puzzles are on here and to just overlook them. :-)

#21: Deana L (ffswife) on Jun 30, 2008
Oh! Don't completely overlook them. Pass them by for now... but you'll find they really get easier, even with all the scrolling. Plus, you'll miss some AMAZING artwork!
#22: Adam Nielson (monkey) on Jun 30, 2008
I didn't say I skip over them, I just said i don't solve them! :-) I always look at every picture of the puzzles I don't solve.
#23: Jen (LightVader) on Jun 30, 2008
I prefer small ones too. But Deana's right, some of the larger puzzles are absolutely amazing.
#24: Adam Nielson (monkey) on Jun 30, 2008
I agree. You can get more realistic and more detail in a larger puzzle. I just said I don't solve them.
#25: Gypso (Gypso) on Jun 30, 2008
What do you consider a large puzzle Doc Boy?
(Keep in mind I'm working on your puzzle #2994- 55x45) Lol
#26: Adam Nielson (monkey) on Jun 30, 2008
LOL. I like MAKING them larger, (because I know other people like them, and I am here to please) but not solving them as much.
#27: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Jul 1, 2008
then do some larger black & white ones please :)
#28: Arduinna (arduinna) on Jul 1, 2008
I pretty much have the same preferences you have, Adam. Usually 40X40 is the biggest I like. I often peek at the solution and mark as saved the really big ones. That way if there is any interesting conversation going on about the puzzle (or anything else!) on the puzzles' comments, I won't miss it! I also automatically mark them as saved if they require guessing. I just don't like to solve them if there is no way forward other than save and revert. I also don't like words or patterns for the most part. Fortunately, there are enough different puzzles here with enough different styles to satisfy everyone (though we can't seem to keep up with Naneki's insatiable desire for large B&Ws!).
#29: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Jul 1, 2008
lol
#30: Adam Nielson (monkey) on Jul 1, 2008
Arduinna, you took the words right out of my mouth! How scary that what you said is EXACTLY, down to every detail of what you wrote, what I feel and what I do with those puzzles. Thank you for voicing exactly what I would have written. :-)
#31: Sunset Smiley (sunsetsmiley) on Jul 11, 2008
Well, I am sorry for whomever I offended. Know that was no my intent while making the puzzle. It was just a colorful design.

I don't like the spider ones either. They creep me out.
#32: Arduinna (arduinna) on Jul 11, 2008
I really doubt anyone was actually offended, Michelle. Your puzzle just gave us a chance to discuss the issue of rating puzzles.
#33: Sunset Smiley (sunsetsmiley) on Jul 12, 2008
Well then I guess, your welcome? haha
#34: Jane Doe (telly) on Nov 6, 2008 [SPOILER]
I agree with most of you. Simple puzzles like this one don't need to be marked religious. It's just a cross. Crosses don't have to be religious. And shouldn't be offensive...in my humble opinion.
I agree with monkeyboy that I find word and pattern puzzles more offensive just cuz they're a waste of my time in solving them...no offense meant to anyone who loves those, I'd love to see those labeled...lol.

Geesh! I came here to post that I liked this puzzle and had to scroll through a whole discussion on whether or not it was offensive... lol!
