Squirrel now must find seed on the ground that the birds have tossed out of the feeder.

My son's in-laws thought that they had it made, aluminum disk on top of the feeder, greased poles, and even a noise maker. The squirrels figured out how to jump from the nearest tree onto the pole holding the feeders, quickly jump from there onto the aluminum disk, and rock back and forth until all the seed falls out. Then they have a feast under the feeders. The wild turkeys love it, too.

when I put the seed out, I put out bread with peanut butter on it at the same time.

The mourning doves (or dopey doves, as my dad calls them) usually stick to the seeds that fall on the ground as well.

Kristen, there are several doves and many other birds under the feeder, as well as a couple of chipmunks. "Dopey doves" is a fitting moniker.

Another winner, Joel! What color are your squirrels. Here on Long Island, New York, they are grey.

Thanks, Carol. At our house, the squirrels are grey, but just down the road a half mile, I have seen darker (black) ones, and I think I've seen some smaller red ones in the area. We also have several chipmunks, some of them have a burrow under the concrete slab of our pole barn/garage.

The jays dump the seeds out (we have three varieties of jays here in Colorado), and our (brown) squirrels help with the eating. This morning, it's -5 out here, so everyone gets something!
