It's hardly necessary for a bird who can run at more than 40mph and can kick hard enough to eviscerate a lion to hide. There were other birds that lived in South America that were the apex predators of their time -- many millions of years ago. But don't let that make you feel safe. While I don't think this is a very good illustration, I did know exactly what it was when I finished. So I guess it is pretty darn good.

glad you liked it! the "hint" clarification is for comments that tell you how to solve the puzzle..."spoiler" is for comments that describe what the final image is.
