You're right, Kurt, a real tough solve. Nice image. Our high school seal included a rampant griffin, but our mascot was a lion.

thanks JL! We were the Runnin' Rebels...just got an invite today for my high school reunion. hummm
#5: Kristen Vognild (Kristen) on May 23, 2013
My 20-year is this summer as well. Not sure if I'll go, yet.
We were also the Rebels. Our mascot was an exact copy of the Ole Miss rebel man.

ty! :)

I just solved this one again this morning when I saw it pop up on the home page. been awhile since it was published, it was fun to re-visit it
#17: derby (Derby) on Sep 4, 2018 [HINT]
This is an excellent puzzle. I did have trouble with it and needed to resort to trail and error to solve it. Eventually I solved it by figuring out where the 4 red could be placed in the last column.
#18: Velma Warren (Shiro) on May 11, 2019
Wow! That was hard but what a beautiful, well-designed image!
#19: Andrew Schultz (blurglecruncheon) on Sep 10, 2019 [SPOILER]
Well done. I really needed to chip away at the edges. I don't know if that's due to my relative lack of skill.

I also didn't see the Griffin/Family Guy link until I solved it.

Very nice image. Very tough puzzle. Had to guess several times.

I knew what it was going to be pretty quickly, but getting to a final image took a while, quite a challenge, but well worth it!

it's so small and one tricky little devil.... I've got about 10 favs on the site. Hate to throw one of mine in there, but this is one.

solved three times. excellant.
#29: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Feb 17, 2024
I gave it a proper solve, this time. (I might have just saved-and-viewed the first time around.)

A most fiddly solve!
#30: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Feb 17, 2024 [HINT]
In case some solving tactics are helpful to anybody:

I got to about 53% and then was extremely stuck. So I started coloring squares green to indicate to myself that they could *only* be red. That helped a little, so then I also started coloring squares blue if they could only be black, and that helped a little more. While I was working on it, nearly every row and column had a red dot, and of course I couldn't click the Check button to check if my solution was going okay (which I usually do a lot as I work on solving a puzzle). Anyway, using that color coding and slowly chipping away at the puzzle is how I got through it.

Also, throughout the puzzle I was clicking on the clues to color them gray once I was sure that those squares were placed. That helped too.
#31: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Feb 18, 2024
I do the greyed-out clues, but I didn't know I could mark a square with a color that wasn't present in the puzzle!
#32: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Feb 18, 2024
Yup! I use those colors by hovering the mouse over a square and then pressing a key on my keyboard to color that square. If you press the 1 key, the square gets marked with a dot; 2 marks it black, 3 is red, 4 is green, and 5 is blue.
