It's interesting that all four are made differently, even though they (presumably) didn't know of the previous ones.

There probably aren't too many more ways to do it, though. I'm thinking that one where none of the sides are vertical or horizontal would be a harder solve, but the sides would need to be less filled with color.

Hmm...

Escher has got more than 100 DIFFERENT ideas of this type.
And there's a lot of other methods.
And there are some real objects although it's impossible or paradox. There ARE! :)
