It took me a while to get it, but I did. With all the space between the two halves, I kept thinking along the lines of "cross the bridge when we come to it". Of course, the "what" and the "must" didn't work with that. I do enjoy this type of puzzle though, it reminds me of cryptic puzzles, which have this type of orientation quite a bit.
