Janet, that's what I had in mind. A waltz in 3/4 time.
Thanks for the guesses Freek and Thomas.

I knew it was 3/4 time but I wasn't sure which dance it was. Good one Norma.:)

Could also be a Landler or a Mazurka.

Quite true, Brash. A hambo would also fit. (A Scandinavian dance with beat 1 having only a slightly stronger empasis than the other two beats. The waltz also has a stronger first beat, but the emphasis on beat 1 in the waltz is stronger than the hambo.
The dance is interesting too. In basic step of a waltz, the partners do the same actions 180 degrees out of phase (when one steps on the left, the other steps on the right; when one steps forward, the other steps back). In the hambo, the couple is 120 degrees out of phase - what the first person does on beat 1, then other does on beat 2. The first person's pattern in the 3 beats is left, both together, right; while the second's pattern is left, right, both. This timing makes the feeling quite different for the two, the both step for the first (beat 2) is: right closes beside the left then the entire body rotates pivoting on the heels of both feet. Meanwhile for the second person the both step (beat 3) is more of a leap to get the right foot to close to the left without colliding with the first person's right foot (which is moving between the second person's legs. In a waltz, the basic move turns the couple 180 degrees per measure and takes 2 measures to turn a full rotation of the couple of course, they don't have to turn at all); while in the hambo, a single measure turns the couple a full 360 degrees - so newcomers have to be careful about getting dizzy.

The hambo looks like a fun dance. Not too strenuous. Watched it on Youtube.
