What does the drawing refer to?

A Cochlear Baha implant. It's a device that is implanted into a deaf person's cochlea so that they can hear "sound". It's not going to be exactly like what you and I hear because it's electronic.

I chose this interpretation of his username because I went to school to become an interpreter for the hearing impaired. Because of life getting in the way, I never finished the program but I plan to go back someday :)

I hope you are able to get back to school. Sounds like a great career.

The interesting thing to me is that for some, being deaf is part of their identity and there's a whole deaf culture. So it is wrong, in their eyes, to get a cochlear implant. Kind of a "why fix somethin that ain't broke" mentality. The sign for vampire is a bent, two-fingered "v" in a stabbing motion on your neck. For "cochlear implant" they just moved that same motion up to where it is implanted: right behind the ear. That shows some of how they feel about it.

That's very interesting. You wouldn't think that a deaf person would pass up the opportunity to hear, but you have to respect their freedom of choice.

Interesting!

We watched a great documentary about a family that both parents were deaf. Their daughter was too and she wanted the cochlear implant. The mom's parents were both deaf and they said it was child abuse to do it. The dad's parents were both hearing and they said it was child abuse to not do it. It was very interesting to see a family that had such opposing views. I can't remember the name of it.

I really like your representation, and the image is quite good!
