Now there's an analogy you don't hear every day. It made me smile. Do they still make those tins with the keys?

A great snack combo. Very good Al
#14: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Mar 31, 2013
Thx Susan,it does taste good(as long as you like sardines that is,lol)and it's healthy too if you go for the no sodium crackers. Which is what I do Jota. I do my best to keep my sodium intake low, cause of my high blood pressure. I try to get Niki and the boys to do that too,but they complain about food tasting bland.:)

http://www.webmd.com/heart-disease/news/20111108/new-research-calls-salt-guidelines-into-question
There have been various studies that say that drastic salt reduction may not have all the benefits we thought and that the reduction of blood pressure is minimal. Particularly in the elderly because salt replaces vital minerals that elderly need and people who used little salt are dying faster than those who did not reduce their salt intake all that much.
Of course, this doesn't mean that we can grab the salt shaker and load it on. But that more studies are needed and perhaps different guidelines for different ages.

Have you tried sea salt? It has more flavor, so you can use less and still get a salty taste. Plus, it has trace minerals besides just sodium.

You could also try Mrs. Dash: it uses a blend of herbs and spices, so you get a lot of salt-free flavor.

Guess whose mom was a nutrition freak?
#19: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Apr 1, 2013
Actually I have Kristen,I especially like the Mrs.Dash.:)
#20: Teresa K (fasstar) on Apr 1, 2013
Thanks for the link, Norma.

My doctor told me that since my blood pressure is normal and my sodium levels are good, I don't have to restrict my salt intake. Some people (staff who have taken care of my disabled daughter in the past) have tried to restrict my daughter's salt intake, without my knowledge or direction, and her blood pressure got too low and she was having seizures. The doctor actually prescribed more salt in her diet. Just because salt should be restricted by those whose doctors advise it doesn't mean that everyone else should too.

Fun puzzle, Aldege.

Researchers have waffled on so many things I just take everything with a grain of salt....or two (heh heh). And every time you listen to the news they are pulling another prescription off the shelves and inviting you to join the class action law suit. Don't know who or what to trust, anymore.:)
#22: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Apr 1, 2013
Thx Teresa,I have to admit that even though I don't add salt to my food,I'm not always careful about the sodium content of processed food.As far as my blood pressure is concerned,I take my medication faithfully and it keeps my blood pressure at a good level, around 120 over 80.:)
