Puzzle Description:

by Bach. This is Invention VIII in F major, with the two themes color coded. I just love the way the logic and art combine in these pieces.

Erin, this was my first invention too. Isn't it every piano student's? At first I thought it was a contraption, but I recognized it and started smiling as soon as I got the blue section done. It's very wide so some solvers may find the scrolling unwieldy, but for me it was definitely worth it. How long have you been playing? I studied for 12 years and eventually had my own Steinway. Ah, memories. But now I have an earworm.

Yeah, sorry about the scrolling; scaling is a pain.
I've been playing piano for almost 17 years now and am living without access to anything but a keyboard right now. This has me on an enforced diet of smaller range, no pedal works like these inventions, so I can definitely sympathize with the earworm syndrome.

See puzzles # 453, 1131, 1212, 1213, 1306, 2017, 18763, 18773, 18934, 19355... for several other music note-type puzzles, in various varieties.

But Adam, all those puzzles have free-floating random notes. What distinguishes this one is that it is the first two bars of an actual score, complete with key signature, note stems correctly placed, 1/16 notes, staccatos, and phrasing. It is missing only the notations for 3/4 time and the opening rest, which would have made the puzzle even wider.

Yes indeed, Lollipop. Hence the last part of my previous comment, "...several other music note-type puzzles, in various varieties."

for those of us who didn't take piano lessons (I do recognize the tune, though!):

Thanks, Kristin. I did study piano and did play this one. Was unable to complete the puzzle but appreciate the work that went in to it.
