Puzzle Description:

Half of a tabletop rod hockey table. The one we had came with interchangeable "men" for 6 different NHL teams. We had a league with some neighbor kids and kept standings on a chalkboard.

Great puzzle. It must have been a lot of fun. I wonder if there are any kids that do that sort of thing anymore. It's all phones and Facebook.

They still make games like this, I wonder if most of them are bought by older people trying to recapture their youth. I'm thinking one of these would make a fun gift for my brother.

The Boys and Girls clubs my still have games like this around.

I've always heard this called "foosball. "
These can still be found in churches and rec centers (and my uncle's rec room).

Kristen, this is different than Foosball. Foosball has the rod handles on the sides of the table, the rods run above the table surface, and the "players" twirl head over heels when you twist the rods. On a rod hockey game, the handles are on the ends of the table behind the goals, and the rods run under the playing surface. Some gears cause the "players" to twirl on a vertical axis when you twist the rods. Except for the goalie, which is just operated by a lever that moves him side to side to block the net. In the puzzle, the long black lines represent the slots that the "players" follow as you slide the rods in and out.

Hmm, then I don't think I've ever seen a rod hockey table.

Thanks Joel! At first I thought like Kristen, so after your explanation on #5, I had to google it, those tables look awesome! Lots of fun hours to be invested ...

We had so much fun with these. My brothers and I would have our own league and keep standings as well.Good one Joel.:)

Thanks, Jota and Aldege.

Aldege, I thought you would like this one. I was trying to remember the 6 teams that came with the game. This was back in the mid-60's. So maybe Red Wings, Bruins, Black Hawks, Leafs, Canadiens, and ???

Rangers maybe? They would be the last team of the Original Six. I loved this game growing up. Spent many hours playing with my brother as well. We also had a soccer table that worked the same as the rod hockey table. Nothing beats a bubble hockey table though. Near there is a large pool hall/arcade that rents them by the hour like a pool table.

thx Joel

Yeah, Jay, I think Rangers might be it. I wasn't sure if that was one of the original 6. I'm not familiar with bubble hockey. Had an air hockey table at one point.

Sensei, yw.
