I'm a Catholic, too. I think it's cute. I have a feeling Pope Francis would like it, too. He seems to have a sense of humor. Just a small bit of information: One doesn't have to be a cardinal to be elected pope. It's just been that way for a long time. I read somewhere that a Catholic was elected pope when he wasn't even a priest yet. He had to become a priest, bishop, and archbishop before he could accept, but he did all this. I don't think it was required that he become a cardinal, too.

By the title of the puzzle I was afraid you were referring to yourself. Nice rendition of my favorite bird, sensei!

actually, you don't have to be a bishop either. nor does he even need to be a priest....just male and Catholic(though they've been elected from the house of cardinals for the last 800 years). until papal law changed recently in 2007, you didn't even need the traditional method of balloting to become pope. acclamation (and there was even a third method) has produced several popes. this is when electors, without prior consultation, unanimously proclaim one man to be pope as if it was divinely inspired. Pope Francis is the first pope elected whereas acclamation was ruled out.
