A week ago I was watching the Troitski competition. Engineering students build bridges with popsicle sticks, white glue, toothpicks and dental floss. They have to match size criteria, and they have to estimate how much stress their bridge can handle and how it will fail (either by bending beyond the acceptable limit, or by shearing into pieces). This image fits well - the "pressure applicator" hanging over the bridge is also a question mark (how much can it take?). My daughter was on one of the teams competing.
