I like to travel by train! Is that your obsession or playing/building them?

Very nice image Steve.:)
#4: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Mar 2, 2013
Very nice. I have often wished I had the time, space, and money to build train sets.

Thanks All,

It's a bit of every thing, playing, building, I wanted to be a Train driver rescently, went for a job but missed out. I actually have a fasination with Rail Histroy here in New South Wales, Australia. Just one of my many hobbies....

Checked out train routes in Australia and found it very interesting. A heavy concentration on the east coast, but not much else. Do people use the trains a lot?

No Norma, cars and planes are the prefered long distance travel choice I am afraid. Though we do have some iconic railways and rail trips. The Ghan is very popular, between Darwin and Adelaide, the other is the Indian-Pacific between Perth and Sydney.

The Ghan looks like a pretty desolate train ride. TV shows, movies, etc. give us here in the USA the feeling that Australia is pretty much all outback, but I really enjoyed watching the Snowy River movies to see that Australia also has some very spectacular mountainous scenery.

Depends on what you are interested in. however it isn't all desert, but the outback is an expierence in it's own right. I was planning to do a trip across the outback and the Simpson Desert to Birdsville(had to pull out because my niece nearly died in a road accident the month before we were due to leave) which is a very isolated town in south western Queensland not too far from the junctions of the state borders of South Australia, Northen Territory, and Queensland. they hold a famous picnic day horse races there. I love getting out and exploring the country, I have done the Victorian High Country, where the movie "The Man From Snowy River" was filmed. the hut where he lived, was built for the movie, and has been rebuilt four times due to it being burnt out during bush fires. I have seen it in both conditions, a wonderful location.

I've always been fascinated with Australia as it is so different and has so many unique features not found anywhere else in the world. I hope your niece is recovering from the accident.
