Similar shaped letters get substituted every now and then when I download a book to my Kindle. One I could not illustrate was one concerning and individual who did not have all of his farts straight. LOL

I'm glad it was a clock or we might have an "x" rating on the puzzle...lol.

Thank you Barbara, and your welcome.

Yep, I think they scan a real book, then send the pages through a program that coverts the scanned images into text. All sorts of similarly-shaped letters don't make the transition well.

Yes. Probably similar the the programs we have on our computers that converts scanned documents into text we can edit.
In another story I was confused by the FBI discussing the dues, then it dawned on me the "c" and "l" had merged to make a d. I'm not complaining, though. I love my Kindle.

For a long time I resisted getting a Kindle because I really do like the feel of actual books and the whole library experience. But when I had been in Florida for a couple of weeks and had already spent a small fortune on paperbacks, I finally caved and bought a Kindle paperwhite for the rest of my vacation, and now I wonder why I didn't get one much earlier. I was curious as to whether the typos were poor editing in the original books or if they were related to the scan to Kindle, so thanks for the explanation. Norma, your two examples are hilarious. So far my own favourite is "the tension was palatable."
