When the FDA analyzed samples of two popular brands, they found variable amounts of nicotine and traces of toxic chemicals, including known cancer-causing substances (carcinogens). This prompted the FDA to issue a warning about potential health risks associated with electronic cigarettes.

Gee I was under the impression there were no harmful substances or chemicals involved. I'm glad for the added info from you Norma. Not that it means that much to me because I never smoked,and Niki quit when we decided to have a baby. Most e-cigarettes contain as much nicotine as regular cigarettes. Since they don't contain tobacco they can be purchased by kids and researchers are concerned that the variety of flavors will attract kids and get them addicted to nicotine. Regulations vary, but some countries, including Australia, Canada, Israel and Mexico, have banned electronic cigarettes [source: NPR]. Others consider electronic cigarettes legal, but are in the process of legislating where and how people can use them.
