I really enjoyed solving this, Kurt, thanks! This is a lawman's "star in a circle" badge, yes? I'm a little unsure what those lines between the bottom two star points are...?

The lines say "US" :) My guess would be a Federal Marshal.

From "The Ballad of Gumby":

thanks, JoDeen! yeppers, Kristen's right. US, as in marshal...obviously, "marshal" was to large to add to such a small puzzle. and the "US" makes a lil more white space for a better solve. and personally speaking, looks a little better than the symmetry without it.

It's kind of like the batman logo where some people see teeth and tonsils. At first I saw what seemed to be just a couple of random lines and also wondered what they meant. I looked away and when I looked back I saw the US.

OMG...of course...now that you say it I see it! *hitting forehead with heel of right hand* lol!
