Puzzle Description:

A well known classic of stage and screen but it's not R & J.

Hmm, what was that western that starred Lowly Worm...?
#2: Jennifer McMahon (kalamalama) on Jan 4, 2013 [SPOILER]
Could it be West Side Story? Tony is singing to Maria in the balcony. Probably not, but it occured to me. What's R & J?
#3: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jan 4, 2013
Romeo and Juliet. Sorry, not West Side Story either.

Are you thinking about Early Bird, Joe?
#4: Mitch Nelson (holy_mn) on Jan 5, 2013
I was wanting to say it was the Karate Kid but I don't know that's ever been done on stage. Haven't really seen that movie but the one character in the picture reminded me of some balancing technique that the the main character did somewhere in the film. Can't say I have any idea.

Cyrano de Bergerac?
#6: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jan 5, 2013
Right! Good for you Judy. Thanks for chiming in. I don't know if it's done that much now, but every college and high school used to perform it regularly and I have no idea how many times it has been done on Broadway,

Maybe it was 3:10 to Busytown. There's Lowly Worm standing under the balcony. (For those who've no idea what I'm talking about, here's a pic of Lowly Worm after the indians got him: http://postimage.org/image/qvt2fhw7r/ )

Awww! Poor Lowly Worm. Is he the kind that can regenerate himself?
#9: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Jan 5, 2013
Seemingly.

Great. Lots of lowly worms. They're really cute and they do resemble stick figures from my pics.
#11: Kristen Vognild (Kristen) on Jan 6, 2013
Lowly Worm was one of Richard Scarry's characters, along with Huckle Cat and Goldbug. Can't remember any of the other names. It was usually stuff like Ma and Pa Pig.

Would you also have accepted Roxanne as an answer? ;)
#13: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jan 6, 2013
Roxanne would have been acceptable since she was the object of affection.
#14: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Jan 7, 2013 [SPOILER]
Roxanne was an '80s movie based on Cyrano de Bergerac. Daryl Hannah played the title role and Steve Martin wore a goofy prosthetic nose.
#15: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 7, 2013
Ok, Kristen, that was a funny movie. Love Steve Martin.

Norma, can you explain this scene for us?

Fun puzzle, BTW. I thought for sure it was R&J. :-)
#16: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Jan 7, 2013 [SPOILER]
Cyrano is standing under the balcony, telling Whatsisname what to say to Roxanne.
#17: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jan 7, 2013
Cyrano is in love with Roxanne but she is in love with Christian who does not possess the wit and eloquence of Cyrano. Cyrano has given Christian letters to send to Roxanne so she is expecting Christian to woo her with the eloquence of Cyrano. When Christian is speechless Cyrano has him stand below Roxanne's balcony and Cyrano stands under the balcony and whispers sweet nothings to Christian to say to Roxanne.

Oh yeah, now I remember. :-)
