Hey stupids. I gave it a "2", so now your "1" won't count. Ha ha.

(This comment is for the stuck on stupids who think it's funny to rate puzzles with one *'s.)

Nope. Hmm, didn't think of that when I made it. But that's not it. Good try.

maybe there's a few, but 1 sure *what you said*.... last 2 days I got the 1/1. as soon as it happened, checked users and last log-in....who do you think was in the top 5 last log-ins both times? I kinda figured, and Adam's even said it once.... dunh dunh dunnnnnnnnh! karl! not that it matters....he just does it for fun. ratings usually get where they should.

I have been giving myself a two which cancels out their ones. Your puzzles always rate a minimum of 3***, so you should give yourself *** as soon as you finish your puzzle, then their one *'s can't count and the laugh is on them.

well, I don't rate my own puzzles.....except when the butthead strikes. I don't bother with it at all unless it happens. even then, sometimes I don't. but, for ex, charlie brown's tree is def not a 1 for either. I'd have rated it a 4...but I gave it a 5 cuz by the time it evens out the 1, you've got a 3....if and when he strikes, I give 1 point higher than I think it honestly deserves(and even that doesn't quite undo it). but only when I see it happen. I do the same for yours and every other puzzle as well....

I've been doing something along the same lines, too, but then I decided not to give him a blank slate to work with which defeats him before he has a chance to act out his stupidity. I don't do anything to the difficulty because with these small puzzles, some of them are pretty easy to solve.
#8: Kurt Kowalczyk (bahabro) on Jan 3, 2013
righto....I rate the difficulty the same as I would. honestly, I prefer a lower rating for difficulty anyway, for the jackass who thinks it bothers you that he gave you a one there...once again, not that it matters, but a lower diff rating puzzle can make it into "best puzzles" with a lower quality rating. for ex, a puzzle rated as "hard" needs to be 4 or over....whereas one rated "easy" might make it in with a 3.25. not sure if you noticed that or if you solve off of that tab anyway... just an FYI. besides, puzzles seem to get round about where they should. I'm not too worried about it

Not having anywhere near the talent that you do, Kurt, it's strictly a fun thing for me and I know I'm not going to get any super high ratings. I'm not aiming to make the "Best" list, either. Like you and others, I have been passing time by going to the Best list and solving on the intermediate level. I noticed one thing of interest. Almost all of the puzzles are very large. No small ones. As everybody keeps saying people just don't realize what goes in to a small puzzle. When you work huge you can go in to all kinds of detail, but the small ones you have use the power of suggestion.

I never rate my own puzzles because I care more about the comments. Kurt's right, the ratings seem to even out. I will rate other peoples puzzles for quality only and if I see one that I believe is rated too low I will over rate it by one to try to even it out. Norma is right about the large puzzles being easier to get a higher rating for quality, because you can put more detail in them. Not that they don't deserve the high rating, but it is a bit unfair. If I see a small puzzle that seems to really express what the creator was trying to achieve,it blows me away and I will rate it a 5. I have done this with some of Brian Bellis's puzzles. To me he has made some incredible small puzzles.:)

he has....Brian's done fantastic with little space! and goes for a good solve too. yeah, I agree that the small ones that are really good deserve extra consideration...there a couple others who do extremely well with little space too. namely infrapink, bouldin, and kadou, among others... always a pleasure!

as far as bigger ones go though, it is easier to get the detail. but it is also harder to get some of the detail to solve. in all fairness, the puzzle editor wasn't as neat when the older puzzles were created. I've tried to tweak and solve and re-tweak and solve 10 times on a single puzzle before just trying to make it work. can you imagine doing that with a huge puzzle? with some of them, they musta been sick of it before they ever even published....just an off-hand example that comes to mind, Adam did one with the Wendy's girl and left a note saying that it was "IMPOSSIBLE" to add the freckles and get it to solve. holy crap! how many times you think he tried placing pixels in one place or another before giving up? oooooof!

Thank you for thinking of me, and for understanding the effort that did indeed go into it. Only someone who has actually made puzzles can understand that dilemma.

Back to the puzzle. Not Howard the Duck. Although, someone might have said "duck!" in the movie.

Yea, Kurt. That's it.

I'm late to the party (it's been hard to keep up with all the new 20x's), but I totally agree with you on #9, Norma, about doing large puzzles and getting high ratings.

I made a large (for me, at 40x50) puzzle a few weeks ago, and sure, I could get more detail into it, but only 4 or so people have commented. I feel like most solvers have been avoiding it, just like I've been avoiding anything over about 25x25.

It just isn't as much fun for me. I like to have a lot of solvers and commenters on my puzzles. I don't care nearly as much about ratings as I do about feedback from my virtual friends.

You are so right, Kristen. It's so much more important.
