anyone brave the stores today?

I somehow forgot to pay my Walmart bill and had to go to the store or pay a $25 late fee. The line to the courtesy counter was unbelievable. And I don't understand. Looking at the baskets it looked like people were returning large baskets full of things they bought earlier. What gives? They had 3 registers open but the numb nuts running two of them managed to get them locked up so there was only one open.

gee, Norma. sounds like a fun-filled afternoon....idk, but the last place you'll find me the day after T-day is Walmart.
#4: Tom King (sgusa) on Nov 23, 2012
I didn't venture out except for a take n bake pizza. I avoid malls and stores like the plague.

good call!

Like I said, it was necessary. I had hoped the feeding frenzy would have worn off some by the time I decided to go. But it was the peoples returning all the stuff that blew me away. In my mind I'm thinking, "Look, honey at all the neat stuff I bought." "WHAAAAAT?!!! Take it back. You know we can't afford all that stuff!"

Really Tom,a little early still isn't it?,you wouldn't catch me at the stores the day after. It's too bad it was necessary Norma, that couldn't of been fun. I probably should of put my outside decorations up,the weather was nice for it.:)

never too early, Al. some people leave em up year-round anymore. def beats going to the store! lol

just reminded of something. kinda dumb, but I'll share. 12 days of Christmas....when is day 1, and when does it end? I know the answer, but it should still be interesting to hear what others think....
#10: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Nov 24, 2012
I cheated. I went to Wikipedia.
#11: Kurt Kowalczyk (bahabro) on Nov 24, 2012
oh, hell.... wikipedia knows all. or does it? this oughta be good. what does it say, N?
#12: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Nov 24, 2012
The 12 days start on the day after Christmas, the 26th.
#13: Kurt Kowalczyk (bahabro) on Nov 24, 2012
Dec 25th is day 1. 12 more days after....ending at the Epiphany on Jan 6. to this day, Russians celebrate xmas on Jan 7. For those of you that throw out your tree on Dec 27...

oddly enough, the day of Christmas was picked to off-set a pagan holiday for the sun, as it's around the time of the winter equinox. you can thank the pagans for the traditions of both feasting and present-giving, as it never happened before Constantine merged the 2 holidays, in an effort to unify his empire. Christians didn't celebrate in such a manner. X-mas was celebrated April 21 before that(and some at Jan6/7). Don't take my word for it, look it up for yourself.... dieties with the b-day of Dec 25....you'll find Nimrod, Attas, and most importantly, Mithras. Mithras was worshipped in 100 BC, so BEFORE Jesus. His b-day is Dec 25, he was born of a virgin, died, and rose from the dead 3 days later. this was in Iran, so the same part of the world. trust me, I have my faith in Christ, but at the same time, I must admit that one religion steals from another and so-on. Confucius's vitals look even more similar to JC

close, but wikipedia was wrong. I'd not trust wiki so much, N, as anyone can post whatever they want on the site. kudos for being close though!

Many historians agree that Dec 25 is not the actual day of Christ's birth based on when taxes were collected and when Mary and Joseph would most likely be traveling.

Point of interest: After WW II they discovered similar events had occurred on some of the more remote islands in the Pacific who up until that time had little contact with other people. But religions came into being which we called Cargo Cults because they were happening on islands where the allies established bases for support to the war effort. They might have a cross as a religious symbol, but it was a symmetrical red cross. They also believed that the people were talking to god(s) with the help of a device they had brought with them. Simple things, such as pens left behind, became objects of worship. It seems people everywhere need a deity to worship.

Christians have always been the Great Appropriators. How to you get a bunch of pagans to celebrate the day that Chris rose? Make it the same day as their festival to Ishtar (a fertility goddess, hence the bunnies and eggs).

I'm so glad I couldn't read the puzzle. It made me go to the Comments page. This was all so interesting. You never know where you will find new information. Thanks. Looking forward to all the Christmas puzzles to come. Keep 'em easy and quick for all on the go. :)

Norma.... the large baskets of stuff... layaway.
#22: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Nov 27, 2012
Thanks Deana. I guess that would account for some of it. But most I saw were in Walmart plastic bags and I saw them getting cash back.
