Puzzle Description:

When they dropped turkeys on a shopping mall, not knowing they couldn't fly?

I don't remember that at all. Alice Cooper tells a good story of tossing a chicken toward the audience, thinking it would fly away, not realizing that chickens don't fly so much as flop.

Oh the humanity! I loved that episode almost as much as your puzzles, Norma. I grin in anticipation when I see you have a new one.

And Les Nessman's enthusiastic description leading up to the drop and his changing expressions as the truth of what was happening unfolded.

There's a (possibly invented) story about testing the first high speed train locomotives. They wanted to ensure that the windows would protect the driver adequately if the train hit a bird at high speed. Trains had never gone fast enough for that to be a concern before, but planes had been testing for this for years. So, they borrowed a chicken cannon from one of the airplane companies. After using it for a while, the locomotive engineers went to the aviation engineers for help, because their windows kept being shattered even though they had been made even stronger than the published requirements for plane windows. The aviation engineers found the problem with the testing method - they told them to thaw out the chicken before putting it in the cannon.

Wild story. Crazy enough to be true.
