Puzzle Description:

Since Francis overhauled my old Dodge Diplomat,I've been inclined to take it out for long drives in the country. I was on one of those drives when I heard a siren and saw a motorcycle cop coming up in my rear view mirror...Pull over pal.."What seems to be the problem,officer?"..Do you realize how fast you were going?.." To be honest with you no,my speedometer never worked, but I just had work done on the car,and I'm not use to the speedo working yet. I'll try to be more careful officer."..That's not really why I stopped you Mr.Noir, but you were speeding.." How do you know my name?"..Your well known in this city,Noir.I want to hire you but I'm being watched,so I have to make it look like I'm just taking care of business. I'm going to issue you a citation for a broken tail light, just add it to your expenses.." Why don't you nab me for speeding?".. C-mon Noir a person speeding in a Dodge Diplomat, who's gonna believe that?.."Humph,I see your point, but I don't have a broken tail light."..Thump,smash...yes you do.

A citation. That's actually a pretty good start to the case - it's a huge improvement over getting hit on the head, getting hit on the tail light is much less painful. Noir is starting to learn the basics of good detective work.

I immediately thought of the old Porky movies, when the cop fines for a broken headlight, then smashes it. (Figured if anyone knew those movies, Mr Cholette would--haahahahaha!)

I haven't seen the Porky movies, but the same gag was used somewhere that I have seen. I think it might have been a skit in the Royal Canadian Air Farce long ago (I used to watch them recording the weekly radio show live in the CBC Cabbagetown studios back in the 70's).

Took a while to see it, and then the illustration was very clear. Very tough puzzle. Had to guess a couple of times.
