11,000 lakes doesn't actually impress me that much, since Michigan probably isn't far short. You walk long enough in any direction and you fall into some water. The legacy of glaciars. What impresses me is the number of natural lakes (as opposed to reservoirs created by damming a river) in Texas: 1/2. Caddo Lake is the only natural lake in Texas, and half of it is in Louisiana. Then they discovered oil under it, built oil derricks all over it, polluted it, dammed it, and now it's questionable whether it can be called natural any more.
