Wasn't too much of a mystery drink... it was our very own Perry (pear cider). Himself was mixing up our holiday batch, and I got a sample. Yum.
#11: Gypso (Gypso) on Dec 24, 2007
You make your own Pear Cider????
#12: Twillis (twillis) on Dec 25, 2007
Oh yes. We didn't get to make any this fall, because we had a hard freeze in April, when most of our fruit trees were in full bloom. The real name for it is Perry, but most people haven't heard of that.

We've made wild cherry, crab apple and blackberry wine also, but the perry is the most satisfying. The pears make enough juice so you don't have to add any water to get a good amount. And it only needs to ferment 3 months before you can drink it (wine is typically a year), so it makes a nice holiday drink.

Luckily we had some left over from previous years, so we were able to toast the day properly.

P.S. It might amuse you to know that we have adapted a garbage disposal as a free-flow food processor to grind up the pears and apples. One of the many helpful hints I found on the internet regarding wine-making.
#14: Deana L (ffswife) on Dec 25, 2007
Hmmmm.... *Deana begins to think maybe she SHOULD track down Twillis's exact living space*

;)

Sure got pretty here today! Unfortunately, the hill to my house, which had manage to become navigable in the last couple days is once again not able to be driven up because off all the runoff that refroze. I'm sitting here wondering how my hubby's gonna get home from work tonight! :D
#15: Arduinna (arduinna) on Dec 26, 2007
Hope everyone got home okay! It snowed here today. Big fluffy flakes, not freezing rain! Very pretty and it stayed above freezing so none of it will stick.
#16: Jan Young (haidapup) on Dec 27, 2007
That was really good - good job!
#17: Gypso (Gypso) on Dec 31, 2007
Yum! Perry! I'm not a big pear fan but I'm sure with a glass or two I could become quite fond of Perry.

Deana, as soon as you locate Twillis' whereabouts, send me a bottle. ;-)

I'm looking at my garbage disposal differently now. I think it's getting a bit nervous.
Hope you all stay safe and warm and are able to appreciate the snow and ice from the inside of your homes. ^>^
