The car is perfect. The reason that detectives get that sort of car is three-fold. First, they have to go into some pretty poor neighbourhoods - so it is foolish to drive a car that anyone would want to steal or vandalize. Second, when you are tailing someone, you want a car that is non-descript to make it less likely that the person you are tailing will notice the car following them.
