When she was very young, my daughter thought that the word for breast was "nur". She decided that while she was still breast-feeding, because my wife would ask her "Would you like to nurse?" and my daughter was not yet good enough at spelling to hear that final letter 'e' in 'nurse' or the silent 'w' that wasn't in 'to' - so she heard it s "Would you like two nurs?".

Isn't it wonderful and a source of pure delight what young children hear and feed back to us in totally unexpected ways. I guess one of the most famous is about Davy Crockett who was killed in a bar when he was only three.
