Wow, what a puzzle. It seems Joe there has quite a nose for business. And what a charming(?) wife with all her bling. She looks like miss Ice Queen herself. Funny.

You seem to need to find the son. I'm sure he could be found in some very unlikely, but interesting place.

If this is an old-fashioned family, when the son is found, he will get his hide tanned.

Found to be solvable with deep lookahead by gator.
#8: Gator (gator) on Oct 7, 2012 [HINT]
Most of the way through, look at the remaining 1 clue in column 18. It has to go in either R16C18 or R17C18. In either case, it makes it so that R19C19 has to be part of the 2 clue. This lets us get two dots and a black in column 19.

And then I'm not sure how to finish this without looking move than 2 moves ahead. I'm going to mark this as deep look-ahead for now unless someone can provide a way to finish this one.

Nice puzzle.

Possibly John,or his father might end up being proud of him. I think his mother is too into herself to care though.:)

I'm at 94% and can't seem to find a way forward without anything that starts to feel like trial and error.

it's labeled "deep lookahead," which means you have to be able to see at least 3 steps out in your head, before you reach a contradiction. In cases like this, I'll save the puzzle, try one way, and if I run into a contradiction I'll restore my saved puzzle and try the other option. I'm bad at holding a lot of information in my head. ^_^
#17: Courtenay Footman (Courtenay) on Jan 18, 2024 [HINT]
The key to finishing it for me were the two 4 clues in columns 29 and 23. If you try putting them too high up, the threes in rows 24 and 25 run out of places to go.
