Crazy Quilt

Very pretty patterns.#2: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Sep 25, 2012
There was some edge logic, but I don't remember guessing.#3: Amy Smiles (AmySmiles) on Sep 25, 2012
Well, seeing how it was only my second one I've created I thought it wasn't bad. Sorry if guessing takes the fun out of it.#4: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Sep 25, 2012
My first puzzle was a quilt block. You've already gotten twice as many comments as I did :)#5: Brian Bellis (mootpoint) on Sep 26, 2012 [SPOILER]
Are you a quilter, Amy? Have you made a quilt like this before. It was fun.#6: Amy Smiles (AmySmiles) on Sep 26, 2012
No I'm not a quilter. I wish I was, just have never taken the time to learn. I crochet mostly. Glad you enjoyed the puzzle.#7: Joel Lynn (furface1) on Sep 30, 2012 [SPOILER]
I thought it looked like an afghan of granny squares, which fits with your crocheting! Did you know the top left square is not symmetrical?#8: Amy Smiles (AmySmiles) on Sep 30, 2012
Keep making puzzles, you'll get better with practice.
I didn't realize at first it wasn't symmetrical. I meant for it to be orginally. I noticed it when I was testing it on my own, but thought that added to the challenge so I kept it that way. I kind of prefer puzzles that are a little more challenging rather than just filling in squares. But maybe thats just me. :)#9: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Sep 30, 2012
I agree :) It's actually really hard for me to make a symmetrical puzzle.#10: Web Paint-By-Number Robot (webpbn) on Oct 3, 2012
Found to be solvable with deep lookahead by gator.#11: Gator (gator) on Oct 3, 2012 [HINT]
This one I'm going to mark as deep look-ahead even though our human brains can see how this will be finished rather easily. The logic though is a bit more complex.
Most of the puzzle solves fine with line/color logic except for the bottom left block. At this point you will only have red left to finish.
Image the 6 clue in row 19 is extended all the way to the left. Now focus on columns 1-3 (clues 2 6 2). We know R18C2 has to be red because of the 6 clue. We also know that both of the 2 clues cannot extend into row 18, so one of the 2 clues must extend to row 20 (and likewise the 6 clue would also have to extend to row 20 to make this work). This will make R20C5-R20C7 dots. R19C7 was already a dot by extend the 6 clue all the way left. And R18C7 would also have to be a dot since you would be forced to make R18C5-R18C6 red. This makes column 7 invalid since there would be no place to put the bottom 1 clue. SO from all of that, we know R19C1 is a dot. The same logic can be applied if the extend the 6 clue right which will end up causing R19C10 to be a dot. And in fact this same logic can be applied all around the "square".
