Visit International Dark Sky Association's website http://www.darksky.org/ to learn more abut saving our night sky, saving money, and increasing safety in the process.

My brother was flying into a small town that had not yet adopted the safer shrouds and to be on the safe side, had to ask to land on instruments because it was unclear what was airport and what not.

I never heard of that, but it figures our resident astronomer would know all about it :)

Great idea, never heard of it being referred to as light pollution, but that is a very appropriate term. We had a security street light on our property when we moved in,but i had it removed because it interfered with our enjoyment of watching the stars, and fireflies, and shooting stars at night. It also is saving me $16.95/month on electricity.:)

Nice puzzle! Al, I agree with dimming or turning off security lights, but I have a motion detector in my driveway. Any thing larger than a fox will set it off. My dog is so keen to the light that he will notify us if it goes on. This saves us electricity and thwarts any would be thefts.

Nicely designed, Brian.

Tucson is a "dark" city. Light pollution restrictions are enforced due to the proximity to Kitt Peak Observatory. Very cool place to visit.

I wish more cities would get with that program. I remember a blackout almost 2 decades ago that caused all the stars to become visible from the city. What a delight.

Good illustration, though I needed the explanation to see it. At first I thought it was some kind of snowman.
