It is funny that this is the accepted shape of water drops when actual water drops are spherical.

That is interesting, Brian. Does it have something to do with how the human brain perceives a water droplet as it begins to fall, I wonder?

Teresa - that is what I was thinking when I read Brian's comments. We can see (unaided, only with our eyes, no slow-motion video capture here) the drop clearly before and right as it falls, but after gravity completely takes over we likely cannot discern the spherical shape that the drop takes on.
