Puzzle Description:

I only lived in Houston until I was 2, so I usually claim Birmingham as my hometown. Vulcan is the tallest cast iron statue in the world. Because he only wears an apron, he moons the city of Homewood.

I really lived in Vestavia Hills, but nobody would know where that is. It's right next door to Mountain Brook, where Natalee Holloway lived.

Growing up, I always saw him with a torch in his hand. It was a fairly cheesy torch that looked like a popsicle, but it had one cool feature, It glowed green most of the time, but any time there was a traffic fatality in Birmingham it glowed red for 24 hours.

Now they've restored a short arrowhead that he originally held, which is cool. The bad part is that they painted him. He used to have a rusty bronze color, but now he looks like they sprayed him with grey primer.

I don't know why he's bothering to wear an apron if he can hold a piece of metal he's working on with his bare hand. Hot, hot!

There exists a t-shirt that says "You know you're a blacksmith when it's no big deal when you catch on fire." Note that that's "when", not "if".

What an interesting piece of art. Love the title, and the background story.

Joe, you work with welding equipment, don't you? Have you ever burned yourself?

Very interesting piece of art. Because he was designed to be seen from below, his proportions are a bit wonky. He has an oversize head (plus Vulcan was often described as a dwarf, so he has dwarfish proportions), and his arm that's bent over the anvil looks freakishly long when you're close to it.
