Puzzle Description:

When milk was delivered to your house, and put into the little box that was built into the brick wall at the side of the house. There was an adjoining door inside the house that you opened to get the bottles of milk.

My sister bought a house last year with one of these. She hopes to reuse it for something someday, but it has been for many years (and will remain for now) securely screwed shut against intruders. :(

For a brief time in the late 70's we had milk delivery to my childhood home in the suburbs. It was delivered into an insulated box on our porch.

I remember milk delivery, we had sort of a "cage" on our back porch. Haven't thought about that in years!!

Travis, what product was charlie the chip all about..chips?,as in potato chips? Don't tell me you had chips delivered to your home. Now that would of been nice, lol.:)
#9: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Apr 8, 2012
Thx Nancy,i don't remember a cage or an insulated box like Joe said, but i find it interesting that Joe says his sister makes sure it is securely locked,as she should. In the old days we didn't have to worry so much about security.:)

Is this what you meant, Travis?

Ditto Joe and Travis. Yeah, Aldege, Charles Chips delivered potato chips to our house in the '60's. They came in big reusable cans like you get popcorn in at Christmas time. The barbecue flavor was great. We also had different people delivering eggs and bread. My mom didn't drive, so it was really helpful to her to get all these staples delivered.

We had Charles Chips, too. However, they weren't delivered, we had to go get them from this one little place. The cans had a deposit, so we rarely had more than a couple at a time. Our family (my father, really) usually picked the pretzels (dark brown can) rather than the chips (tan can).

I use to cross the border occasionally to shop, and i bought Charles Chips whenever i did. They were the best chips i ever had, especially their jalapeno flavoured ones.

My favorite part of the milk delivery was the little fan-shaped device that had tabs for the items you wanted to order for next time. "2 qts. milk, 1 lb. cottage cheese, 1 lb. butter". You'd select your tabs and stick the unused ones like a handle down into the glass milk bottle you were returning.

Thanks for a simple puzzle that stirred so many people's memories!

My pleasure Minnie, I think it's fun to bring back some of these cool little things that we shared in the past. It helps me not think about some of the crap in the world today.:)

The best part of milk delivery for me was getting on to the back of the truck and getting a piece of ice to eat. The driver would always chip off pieces for the neighborhood kids.

Thanks Aldege. We never lived where there was any delivery service for milk or anything else.
