Puzzle Description:

It's Pac-Man, the classic arcade game. Pinky was the name of one of the ghosts (seen here in black & white).

And here I am looking for his partner the Brain. One free video token to the first one who knows why PacMan was called "pac man". (NO GOOGLING!)
#2: m2 (mercymercy) on Nov 15, 2007 [SPOILER]
I was thinking about Pinky and the Brain too. lol
#3: Jennifer Davis (lightvader) on Nov 15, 2007 [SPOILER]
I don't know why he was called Pac-Man but I do know this:
- The ghosts names were Pinky, Inky, Blinky, and Sue
- Ms. Pac-Man out sold the original Pac-Man
- The creator came up with the character after looking at a pizza pie with one piece missing.
#4: Naomi Millar (sailormewtwo) on Nov 15, 2007 [SPOILER]
The fourth ghost was also Clyde. I think it depended on the version.

Tee-hee, I was trying to come up with the title that wouldn't give away the puzzle. :]
#6: Gypso (Gypso) on Nov 15, 2007 [SPOILER]
Well you most definitely win on the title! Brilliant. :)
This is a great puzzle. Very fun to solve. The title had me guessing the Brain and then the little finger. The final image was a surprise and a pleasure.

Congratulations Marcy for posting your first puzzle to Webpbn! What name would you like to be called by?

Thank you for the fun and I hope that you post more of your clever creations! ^>^
#7: Jennifer Davis (lightvader) on Nov 15, 2007 [SPOILER]
I was remembering the names from Ms. Pac-Man on the SEGA Genesis, which we still have.
#8: Gypso (Gypso) on Nov 15, 2007 [SPOILER]
I am always impressed by responsible gamers such as yourself LV who take such good care of their systems and games. Kudos to you! ^>^
#9: Marcy (triath) on Nov 16, 2007 [SPOILER]
Thanks! You can call me Marcy. I get a kick out of classic gaming and own an Atari and a Commodore 64.

It's technically my second puzzle, and my first was just an exercise to see what puzzle creation was like. (http://www.webpbn.com/play.cgi?id=1213)

Geez Marcy I even DID your first puzzle. What a dope I am!
You are a hard core gamer. My brother bought my Mom one of the first hand held pac man games. It had to be plugged in, no batteries. It was about as big as a small dinner plate a bit heavy. We spent a lot of happy hours with it.
Thanks again for the puzzle. Your first one was fun too! ^>^
#11: Arduinna (arduinna) on Nov 17, 2007 [SPOILER]
I had an old Vic-20 when I was a kid. I always tried to program games on it from old computer magazines (you saved them to a cassette tape!!), but they never quite turned out right. My clowns in Circus had to smash # signs instead of balloons. I also had a Donkey Kong and Centipede cartridge and that was about it. We were po'.

Fun puzzle!

You were a precocious child Boar Goddess! It doesn't surprise me that you were so clever that young.

Sorry for the double posting. Not sure how I did it.

I just figured that you meant it so much you had to tell me twice, Gypso!

I think we might be posting at near the same time. I'm gonna check chat now to see if you or Twillis are there. ^>^

We also have a Game Gear, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Nintendo GameCube, a few Game Boy Advances, a few Nintendo DS and a Nintendo Wii.

Is it obvious that I'm a Nintendo Fangirl?
#17: Gypso (Gypso) on Nov 17, 2007
Right on LV! Same at my house (minus Game Gear). We also play the PS2 &3. I have all the original packaging for nearly every game (some were bought used with no boxes).
I am a Zelda freak. Twilight Princess for GameCube was awesome! I just watched my son play it on Wii and that looked pretty cool as well.
Though the graphics remind me of Wind Waker, (I did not enjoy Wind Waker) I'm very pleased with the Zelda for DS. I haven't finished it yet though. Too much time on Webpbn. ^V^

I never got into Zelda. I have one or two Zelda games, though.

My favorite right now is Fire Emblem. It's a strategy RPG. Kind of like playing chess. Can't wait to get the newest one for Christmas or my birthday.
#19: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Nov 19, 2007 [SPOILER]
In my younger years I used to go to a bar after work with a co-worker, her & I would sit in front of Ms. Pacman and play until we couldn't see straight. To this day Pacman is still one of my favorite games.
#20: Gypso (Gypso) on Nov 19, 2007
Your birthday is on or near Christmas LV? I hope it doesn't get lost in the bustle. :)
#21: Jennifer Davis (lightvader) on Nov 19, 2007
Yea Gypso, two days before. We actually have a lot of December Birthdays in my house, one on the 8th, one the 18th, then me on the 23rd. The stuff never gets lost. sometimes people combine Chirstmas and my birthday and due something big, but it never gets lost.
#22: Gypso (Gypso) on Nov 20, 2007
My family is full of December birthdays as well. We have the 7th, 12th, 15th, my grandson on the 19th and step mom on the 20th. My poor step mom always seems to get short changed.

I'm glad that your birthday doesn't get lost LV. :)
#23: Jen (lightvader) on Nov 20, 2007
It doesn't get lost at all. Sometimes I feel that I get overcompensated though because my family is trying to make sure it doesn't get lost.
#24: Kevin Sobiski (biskit) on Nov 20, 2007 [SPOILER]
The game was called Pac Man because the game originated in Japan, and the translation came out to be Puck Man. Well, they knew before they started producing the game what teenagers would do to that first letter once the machine was in the arcade. So, they changed it to Pac Man. And yes, I knew that without googling.

BTW, I hated this game. I played Galaxian and the follow-up Galaga.
#25: J.C. Anderson (jc.noserdna) on Nov 20, 2007
And the cigar goes to Kevin! BTW, I'm with you on the videogames.
#26: Gypso (Gypso) on Nov 20, 2007
No, no, no LV! No birthday guilt ever. Your family wants to celebrate you and the day you were born. Openly enjoy it with great gusto! ^O^

JC, do you hate all video games or just Pac Man?
#27: Jen (lightvader) on Nov 21, 2007
I do enjoy my birthday very much. And I absolutely love the Christmas season. Sometimes I wonder if I love Christmas so much because I'm a Cristmas baby or if I would love it as much no matter when I was born.
#28: J.C. Anderson (jc.noserdna) on Nov 22, 2007
Actually I don't really hate pacman, Gypso, I just found it boring. But then it wasn't being marketed to get my tokens, there were already enough shootemup space games for that. Pacman was a gentler game, designed to lure girls (and their money) into arcades. I still don't recall many girls in the arcades back then, but my uncle who made and sold video games in the 80's said it worked enough for them to put out Ms pac man
#29: Sunset Smiley (sunsetsmiley) on Aug 11, 2008 [SPOILER]
I was looking for pinky and the brain too! I had no idea what it was until I had like 2 squares left. This is very well done! My dad and my uncle figured out the code to get every fruit and every dot without losing a life. They were awesome at that game back then. We have one of those big videogames you see in the arcades. It is a big hit along with the Star Wars pinball machine...my mom loves that game. Great job on the puzzle, very real looking. :) Thanks.
#30: Gator (Gator) on Dec 17, 2010 [HINT]
Just thought I would mention that this one requires simple smile logic at the end. Nice puzzle.
#31: karl (keicher) on May 8, 2011 [SPOILER]
this puzzle just needs a little bit more rounding of pacman, otherwise, great idea for a puzzle.
#32: Kristen Vognild (Kristen) on Mar 8, 2013 [SPOILER]
Yep, Clyde was the orange ghost in Pac-Man (he was also featured in Wreck-It Ralph), and Sue was the orange ghost in Ms. Pac-Man. Blinky was red, Inky blue, and Pinky pink in both games.
